Bismillah,

I think what is important is what we put into the word 'celebrate'. To a Muslim celebrate should mean fasting, reading the Qur'an and remembering the Prophet, sallalahu aleihi wa sallam and the importance and meaning of Islam for us.

But many mix this up with for example how Christians celebrate the birth of Isa, aleihi salam, and that is no celebrate in the Islamic way. One has to distinguish between what is what, and not fall into a 'celebrating' trap that is non-Islamic.
