Creationism - arclight - 03-05-2006 How does Islam stand on Creation and evolution? AFAIK Ishmael was Abrahams son, and was the founder of Islam therefore, pre-Abraham, all faiths of Christian, Islam and Jew share the same beliefs of the beginning of the world, and the world being created in seven days? If so, how does the Theory of Evolution fit in with it, is it accepted by Islam and in some way accomodated, or regarded as being plain wrong? Creationism - naseeha - 03-05-2006 Quote:How does Islam stand on Creation and evolution? As far as evolution is concerned we believe that allah created the heavens and the earth in six days... you can refer to the quran chapter 57 verse 4 Click here to view this verse as far as evolution is concerned islam rejects it... outright... For centuries islam has been the forefront of science and technology (maybe we can get into that in another thread) and we do not see science as being seperate from the religion and so on.... however of all things in science the THEORY of evolution is rejected. furthermore... it is only a theory.. this has not been proven.. in fact.. i remember reading in the daily news in my country, a skull that was found that goes against the theory of evolution. to go even further arclight...muslims believe in the quran as THE word of god. in that... these words were actually spoken by allah himself. as it was revealed to his slave and messenger Muhammad (S.A.W.S). The muslims would not leave the truth (i.e. the quran) to go and believe in a THEORY... LOL I must say that i have read your posts in this forum and i am very impressed with the level of questions that u ask... very pertinent alhamdulillah... all praise is due to allah... welcome arclite... here are some links that you can visit for more info on the islamic perspective on evolution.. That site doesn't really try to prove that what Evolutionists say is wrong, it just disagree's by saying "No" rather than "Because". I'm surprised he doesn't use the Duck Billed Platypus as an example, as its the one of the biggest sticking points in the theory of evolution (TBH I wonder if God was playing a little joke on us when he made that one :) ) Also some of its facts are out: "The fact is, however, that the effects of mutations on organisms are inevitably harmful, and may even have fatal results." Not really accurate, as genes can be altered without having disastrous effects. Selective breeding is the simplest form, and is why we now have hundreds of different types of cow around the world, for example. Isn't it possible that certain passages of the Quran and Bible have been misinterpereted, or rather misunderstood? I'll work from the Bible to explain this, as I know it better :) "So God created man in his own image" : It's been taken for granted that this means mans physical form was created in Gods image, but is it possible that it actually means mans....... well I guess 'soul' was created in Gods image, rather than his body. I mean God/Allahs actual form is beyond anything we can really comprehend, after all he created all this, so does he really have a physical form at all? Then theres the making the world in 6 days. Physics has shown that time is more just "then and now" (Theory of relativity and all that). Before He created the world there probably was no 'time' as we percieve it, so 'six days' could be much longer. Even if you ignore the man/monkey apsect, it is possible that the other animals could have evolved from what He originally created. Also, if you read the Bible it even lists the various animals in the way science believe they evolved: "1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life" "1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth" "1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth" Of course the biggest problem is that this is the English version, which uses a style of English hundreds of years old, and also translated from Latin, which in turn was translated from Hebrew. Plenty of room there for the occasional misunderstanding of words that could have more than one meaning. Not sure if I've really explained myself properly there, but I hope get my point, even if you don't agree with it :) Quote:I hope and pray that i was able to answer your question arclight... Halfway answered. At least I know where Islam stands on it now :) |
