Ka'ba is the Qibla i.e. the direction Muslims face during their prayers. it is considered to be the holiest place in Islam, it is also known as the Holy mosque. it was recorded in our history that God ordained a place of worship on Earth to reflect the house in heaven called al-Baytu l-Ma'mur, it was Adam the first to build such a place of worship, and later on it was re constructed by the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ismail (Ishmael). here are some views of the Ka'ba, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Salam Wael. What is the kaba? - Curious Christian - 07-28-2006 Did Mohammed originally instruct Muslims to pray towards Jeruselem? What is the kaba? - Dan - 07-28-2006 Bismillah No, Allah did. What is the kaba? - Curious Christian - 07-28-2006 Quote:Bismillah Did Allah change his mind? What is the kaba? - radiyah - 07-28-2006 Quote:Did Mohammed originally instruct Muslims to pray towards Jeruselem? Bismillah All Blessings of Allah(SWT) upon The Seal of Prophets Muhammad(PBUH) and his kins &companions. Prophet Muhammad is just a human being who ask muslims to obey Their Creator, not according to his own will but by order from Allah(SWT), through Quran or his ahadeeth. And about instructing muslims to pray towards jerusalim it is true, but it was not originaly instructed, as u can c in the following verses: Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem The fools (pagans, hypocrites, and Jews) among the people will say, "What has turned them (Muslims) from their Qiblah [prayer direction (towards Jerusalem)] to which they were used to face in prayer." Say, (O Muhammad ) "To Allâh belong both, east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a Straight Way." (Al-Baqarah 2:142) Thus We have made you [true Muslims - real believers of Islâmic Monotheism, true followers of Prophet Muhammad and his Sunnah (legal ways)], a Wasat (just) (and the best) nation, that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad) be a witness over you. And We made the Qiblah (prayer direction towards Jerusalem) which you used to face, only to test those who followed the Messenger (Muhammad) from those who would turn on their heels (i.e. disobey the Messenger). Indeed it was great (heavy) except for those whom Allâh guided. And Allâh would never make your faith (prayers) to be lost (i.e. your prayers offered towards Jerusalem). Truly, Allâh is full of kindness, the Most Merciful towards mankind. (Al-Baqarah 2:143) Verily! We have seen the turning of your (Muhammad's) face towards the heaven. Surely, We shall turn you to a Qiblah (prayer direction) that shall please you, so turn your face in the direction of Al-Masjid- al-Harâm (at Makkah). And wheresoever you people are, turn your faces (in prayer) in that direction. Certainly, the people who were given the Scriptures (i.e. Jews and the Christians) know well that, that (your turning towards the direction of the Ka'bah at Makkah in prayers) is the truth from their Lord. And Allâh is not unaware of what they do. (Al-Baqarah 2:144) And from wheresoever you start forth (for prayers), turn your face in the direction of Al-Masjid-al-Harâm (at Makkah), that is indeed the truth from your Lord. And Allâh is not unaware of what you do. (Al-Baqarah 2:149) And from wheresoever you start forth (for prayers), turn your face in the direction of Al-Masjid-al-Harâm (at Makkah), and wheresoever you are, turn your faces towards, it (when you pray) so that men may have no argument against you except those of them that are wrong-doers, so fear them not, but fear Me! - And so that I may complete My Blessings on you and that you may be guided. (Al-Baqarah 2:150) These are the verses concerning The prayers towards jerusalem and Mekkah. If u need more explanation dont hesitate to ask insha'Allah(by will of Alla(SWT) we will answer. peace What is the kaba? - Curious Christian - 07-28-2006 So Allah had them pray to Jersulem just to test who would question it when he had them switch? What is the kaba? - Muslimah - 08-03-2006 Bismillah as salam alykom Exactly curious, matter of fact, this whole world is a test for us mankind, it is a test in the sense of who obeys' Allah's rules and who doesnt. Coming to Ka`ba specially, Ka`ba always occupied a high position among Arabs even before the advent of the Messenger prayer and peace be upon him with his message. They always performed Haj and relevant rituals around it. When Allah Instructed Mohamed prayer and peace be upon him and his followers to immigrate from Mecca, this was on its own a hard test. They had to leave behind everything, all their belonging, all their social positions and just move as immigrants with nothing but their faith. Changing the Kibla to which they direct their face in submission to Allah while praying was another test. Allah Wanted for them to learn not to worship Ka`ba but rather the Lord of Ka`ba. In Arabic Ka`ba is called Allah's Sacred house. Thus, Allah Willed to stress the fact that they have to pray facing whereever Allah Instructs them to, because they are calling on Allah not on stones. Remember, at that time, people came from an idole worshiping phase. Allah Willed to radically eliminate this notion from their hearts and minds. May Allah Accept and Forgive any shortcomings in my reply |
