Ok as some of you know i'm gonna get married.
and now i'm in a spot where i need some islamic advice prior to that point. I have read some posts on sexuality on this forum before, and they were helpful.
but here's my quesiton
Is birth control permitted in Islam?
If so
what methods?

Sobhan Allah, recently I translated relevant material which contained the following:

Narrated under the authority of Jabber may Allah be pleased with him:” We used to practice A`azl during the time of the Messenger – prayer and peace be upon him – and he did not forbid us’. He also said:” We practiced A`azl while Quran being revealed, thus, he neither commanded or forbade us to practice it”. From this we derive that, as long as A`azl was not prohibited by neither a Quranic text nor a Hadeeth, that it is permissible. In addition that as long as the Prophet – prayer and peace be upon him – approved it, it means that it is permissible and not prohibited.

A`zl was the method used then, since there were no other methods.
May Allah Inspire you with the correct decision.
However, I remember on another narration, they asked him openly, we used to practice A`zl, shall we continue, he said practice it although it will not hinder Allah's Qadar.

I asked one of my friends about this and he said that it is HARAAM but i know of Azl.. he said that this was azl was permitted and other types were haraam

Congrats on your marriage InshaAllah. May Allah(SWT) make it a source of happiness for you ameen. The Pill is one option of birth control but you should talk to your doctor, the pill might be great for you and then again it might not. There are many different types of birth control pills with various amounts and types of hormones so one type may be best for you while another is not. Seeing a Doctor is important!
I've read Fatwas that say so long there is mutual consent between the two spouses it's halal.
I am not really sure if the "early withdrawal" emberrassed to say, is really going to be effective.
I was searching about this birth control subject myself recently, I have learned that it is ok to use birth control so long its temporary.
I have been learning so much about the pill myself lately. It's suppose to be quite effective.

So long as it is based on a hadeeth, I dont see how can your friend say it is haram. And as Nasra said what is more important is that the Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam told his companions when asked about this, that the wife's permission must be taken.

Before starting hormone therapy birthcontrol, I would seriously look into it and not just the company's websites. The pill changes your hormone balance which can affect moods. Also when you are ready to have children, it can take months for the women to become fertile again. There is also some speculation that the because so many women are now on hormone therapy that the hormone in their urine is having environmental consequences.
The barrier methods (eg. condoms, diaphram) seem to be the safest and most effective.

I discussed it with khadeeja and some friends of mine are looking into it. Khadeeja will have a chat with her mom and then go see a doctor about all this.
But if any of you can give me some kind of reputable site to look up on these pills it would be nice. So i can do the research.

Dear naseeha, it is not for me of course to cross lines. But out of concern for a dear Muslim couple who are getting married soon Insh a Allah. Just have children when u r young. The whole goal of marrying in Islam is to have children. Mash a Allah u r advantaged with young age. It is a blessing to have children when u r young, it makes much difference.
Regarding the pills, no matter which kind they are, they are depend on changing the woman's hormones in order to supress ovulation. Thus, in all cases a hormone disturbance is induced. As I read the body gets adjusted. But at the end, why play with the hormones when you can avoid this.
naseeha, the whole ecological disturbance we are facing on earth stemmed when man started playing with the environment.
Let us be thankful to Allah that we can procreate. Just depend on Allah and have children in the name of Allah. I dont want to get personal or anything like this. Sorry if I crossed lines.
But I m just concerned. spare yourselves the potential trouble.
Increase the number of Muslims brother :)

Far be it from me to say what form of birth control a woman should use. However I've seen some statements here that are down right ignorant. (sorry for the strong language but that's exactly what it is)

I'd like to know what journal of medicine you got this information from? I ask because it is well documented that once a woman stops taking the pill, her hormonal balance recovers very quickly. Which is why you see women panic when they "miss a day".
Not to get too personal, my wife is a midwife who treats many muslim women (I've been in the office setting up the computer equipment and have seen them there) My wife tells me that the highest requested form of birth control from her patients is the IUD. It is, I am told, a very safe, effective and temporary form of birth control.
Naseeha, I would suggest speaking with your medical professional, and if you can find one who shares your faith to converse with, all the better.

It's only among nonchaste women who use the pill ever since teenagers and continue to adulthood and have all these sexual relations with many different partners. That it becomes difficult to get pregnant, in some cases they never get pregnant at all. In the defence of chaste women everywhere: This is not the case at all. My sister for instance she was on the pill the first 6 months when she got married (for the first time in her life) and the first two weeks after stopping she got pregnant. Alhamdulilah.
If something is done with a good intention and for Halal reasons Allah blesses it, and if something is done for something evil and Haram it sometimes becomes a curse on it's own.
Too much of anyhting is far too much.
