Nazam - Infoseeker - 03-07-2007 :assalam: i need to ask few questions about when praying salat what do you need to do if during your pray you get funny pictures and memory of your past coming fort to you. and what do you do when you think you might have not done 2 rakat but you have this feeling you have done this. Nazam - Dan - 03-07-2007 Bismillah As Salam alaikum Welcome to the board... I can give you the advice from memory but if you want references, then Insha'Allah someone else will have to do that since I am on a time constraint. #1 "what do you need to do if during your pray you get funny pictures and memory of your past coming fort to you." The Prophet told us to seek refuge with Allah from Shaytan bc he is the one who is bring all these "whisperings" into your mind. Like your mind starts making a grocery list or you remember something someone so long ago that you thought you had forgotten about it? Say "aoothu Billahi minash Shaytan neerrajeem." ( I seek refuge in Allah from the cursed satan.) Then spit three times to the left (air spit like you are trying to get a hair out of your mouth or saying the "p" sound only with more air behind it... pfff, pfff, pfff). Also, ask Allah for Help in concentrating during prayers. Remember the punihsments of the Fire and the pleasures of Paradise. Also, remember that you are standing before not your father, not your boss, not the leader of the country, but THE CREATOR OF ALL. Allah Takes our lives when He Wills. Keep in mind that maybe He Will take your life during or after your prayer. It is a possibility bc none of know when we are going to die. Insha'Allah that might help. #2 "what do you do when you think you might have not done 2 rakat but you have this feeling you have done this." In Islam certainty is not removed by doubt. If you are standing there asking yourself "have I done two or three rakats," then your certainty lies with two. Pray as if you have done two. Before saying salam do the two prostrations of forgetfulness. Many times if you have a question, you might be able to find the answer quicker by using the board's search feature. A little effort is required but it usually will reap good results. I know that the two questions that you have asked have been covered in depth on other threads so if I have failed to answer your question fully, then try a search. If you are still not satisfied, then by all means ask for more details and we'll see what we can do. Again, Welcome! As Salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu Nazam - Muslimah - 03-08-2007 Bismillah as salam alykom Jazakum Allah khairan Dan, Just wanted to welcom infoseeker to the board, may Allah makes your stay beneficial. Nazam - muslimah_min_fhalesteen - 04-07-2007 Gain Khushuu in Salat should help in any distractions of wordly affairs Khushuu during Salaat is misunderstood by some people as crying and weeping. Rather it is the presence of the heart during an act of ibadah. When a person's heart is fully occupied with what he says or hears, he is in a true state of khushuu. The concept of Khushuu in Salaat is very essential for the following reasons:
[*]It is a vital factor in making a person successful in this life and in the afterlife. [*]It is a contributing factor for the acceptance of Salaat [*]It is a way to gain more rewards from Almighty Allah; the more khushuu a person has the more rewards he gets [*]Without Khushuu the heart cannot easily be purified
Ways to Gain Khushuu
[*]Avoiding major and minor sins is very helpful in gaining Khushuu, as the heart becomes more receptive to the words of Allah during and after Salaat. [*]Reciting the Quraan frequently and consistently softens the heart and prepares it for Khushuu. Hard hearts do not gain Khushuu. [*]Minimize attachment to wordly matters. Gearing one's intentions towards the Afterlife helps against the temptations of life. [*]Avoid excessive laughter and useless arguments as they harden the heart and lead to heedlessness. [*]Stop working as soon as you hear the Athaan. When you listen attentively to the call of Salaat repeat after the mu^thin then offer the relevant supplication. This prepares you for a smooth transition from the business with wordly matters to the business with Salaat. [*]Going to the masjid early for praying and continual mentioning of Allah drives Satan away and helps gain concentration. [*]The waiting time for the congregational Salaat helps create a buffer zone between the state of mind before Salaat and the state during Salaat.

[*]When you stand facing the Qiblah remember the following: It might be the last Salaat in your life, there is no guarantee to live longer to catch the next salaat. You are standing between the hands of Allah, how can you be busy with something else? The angel of death is chasing you. [*]Don't forget to make isti'athah. It wards off Satan's whispers. [*]Keep your eyes focused on the place of sujuud. [*]When reciting the Fatihah, try to recall the response of Allah to you after every ayah you say. (When you say: al hamdul lillahi rabi'il alamin, Allah responds: My servant praised me). [*]Beautifying the recitation of the Quraan has a positive impact on the heart. [*]Recite the Quraan slowly and reflect upon its meaning deeply. [*]It is recommended to change the surahs that you recite from time to time to avoid the mechanic-like state of repetition. [*]Undoubtedly, understanding Arabic helps you focus on the intended meaning. [*]Interact with the recited ayahs as this will help you be more focused: if you hear an ayah about Allah, glorify him by saying Subhaana Allah, if you hear a command to make istighfaar, do it. [*]When you prostrate, remember that this position brings you closer to Allah. Seize the opportunity to make sincere du'aa. Invest these moments in making sincere supplications.

[*]When you praise Allah, thank Him from the bottom of your heart that you have experienced the beauty of Salaat in your heart. Getting used to this habit prepares you for the next Salaat, as you will always be eager to focus in prayer. [*]One perfections leads to another perfection. If someone perfects his Salaat once, he would be self-motivated to continue on the same level.
MAY ALLAH FILL OUR HEARTS WITH KHUSHUU--AAMEEN I took the above information from a book which is pretty good for all, because not only does it tell you step by step how to pray it also shows u each step, it also answers some common questions. This pillar is not simply the performance of the prayer. It is nor performing it in any way or with just physical motions. Nor is it simply praying in the heart without any physical parts to it whatsoever. Nor is it praying the prayer at the time one finds convenient. One must be careful to perform this pillar of Islam in the best and correct manner. On this point Nadwi, wrote Salat, is not merely the name of certain physical movements. It is not a wooden, lifeless ritual or something of a military discipline in which one's choice or volition has no place. It is an act in which all the three aspects of human existence, physical, mental and spiritual, find their due expression. The body, the mind and the heart participate in it jointly and in an ideal manner. The acts of standing erect, kneeling and prostration appertain to the body, recitation appertains to the tongue, reflection and contemplation to the mind, and fear, repentance and lamenation to the heart...
