Guidelines on interactions with Non-Muslims - abdulwalee - 03-14-2007

How are you this day. I wanted to explain to you the reality of matters pertaining to your question in a way which if you keep an open mind may increse you in your interest in Islam. But Our faith has guidelines that we must follow. Keep in mind that as Muslims we believe that When the last prophet Muhammad was sent, there were Christians around and he came in contact with them. Islam is a divinely reveled faith. thus Allah says in the Qur'an."<b>Allaah does not forbid you to be kind and just with those who have neither made war on your religion nor driven you from your homes. Allaah loves those who are just and equitable}, [soorah al-Mumtahinah, Aayah 8].</b>A person's dealings with others falls into one of three

categories

1. He deals with them fairly and justly;

2. He deals with them fairly and justly;

3. He deals with them unjustly.

Dealing with people unjustly is prohibited. Even with the rights of non-Muslims, it is not permitted for you to deal with them unjustly and with oppression. Ibn Qayyim (Rah) when commenting on the words of the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam):

((If the people of the Book give Salaam upon you, then answer them by saying, And upon you)) says, "This is if they say, 'As-Salaam' in a way which is not clear and it is possible and likely that they in fact said: "As- which means "poison". However, if they say, "As-Salaamu 'alaykum" clearly, then you should reply by saying, "Wa 'alaykum as-Salaam" also in a clear manner.

Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) says:

{If you are greeted by anyone, then reply with a better greeting or at least return the same greeting}, [ Soorah an-Nisaa, Aayah 86].

This is what justice calls for. However, the reason for the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) saying:

((If the people of the Book give as-Salaam upon you, then answer them by saying, And upon you)) is made clear in a hadeeth narrated by ibn 'Umar. The Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said:

((The People of the Book say, "As-Saam 'alaykum" (May you be poisoned) so if the People of the Book give as-Salaam upon you, then reply by saying, 'Wa 'alaykum)) (And upon you.). And so the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) clarified the reason for this ruling.

Therefore, if they say distinctly, "As-Salaam" there is no objection for you to reply clearly, "Wa 'alaykum as-Salaam". If they congratulate us or give us best wishes, we can return the greeting to them. However, to give them best wishes on the occasion of their religious festivals is completely forbidden. It is prohibited, for example, to give them best wishes at Christmas or on the occasion of any other of their festivals because to wish them well by affirming their festivals of disbelief is to be contented and happy that these are their festivals. In the same way that it is prohibited to wish them good health over a drink of wine or any other prohibited subsume, it is also forbidden to wish them well by affirming their religious rites.

The matter of responding to their invitations is something that needs elaboration. If there is benefit in it and it is an opportunity to invite to Islaam, then there is no objection to it. The Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) responded to an invitation of a Jew, who gave him bread, barley and dissolved fat. It is, however, something that we as Muslims must be very cautious about. Friendship and love for them, inclining to them and being content with their disbelief is not permitted because the need to have a sound and pure heart is extremely important for Muslims. The heart if it inclines to them or becomes content with their disbelief is in great danger.

For this reason, Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) says:

{You will not find a people who believe in Allaah and the Last Day being friendly with those who oppose Allaah and His Messenger, even though they are their fathers, sons, brothers, close relatives or from their own tribe}, [soorah al-Mujaadalah, Aayah 8].

> Friendship and love for them, inclining to them and

> being content with their disbelief is not permitted

Muslim males are allowed to take Christian and Jewish women as wives. But, you say that muslims are not allowed to love Christians or Jews. Therefore, under Islamic law, a Muslim male is not allowed to show any affection or friendship towards his non-Muslim wives. Correct???

Bismillah: Assalamo Alikum.

Quote:Muslim males are allowed to take Christian and Jewish women as wives. But, you say that muslims are not allowed to love Christians or Jews.

He does not say that, he was talking about the disbelievers in general, not just about Jews or Christians. However, the love that is forbidden here is to love what they are doing in regards to their false beliefs (i.e worshipping other than God, bowing down to some statues made by men etc…), but to love non Muslims for their good behavior and treating us nicely is actually recommended in Islam, and in return we should also treat them the same way.

The Prophet Prophet Mohammad pbuh let a delegate of Banu Thaqeef tribe stay in his mosque in Madinah even if they were non Muslims. It was to show them courtesy and respect, if we are to hate Non Muslims, the Prophet would have never allowed them even to enter his mosque.

Alo, Caliph Omar Ibn El Khattab may Allah be pleased with him, used to give scholarships to needy disbelievers from the government treasury. Why should he do that if we are commanded to hate disbelievers?

again, Caliph Ali may Allah be pleased with him narrated that Prophet Mohammad pbuh has said, “Allah has prohibited that I inflict cruelty on a disbeliever living in an Islamic State.”

also he has said: “I shall plead on the day of judgment on behalf of a disbeliever who was harmed or whose due right was diminished or if more than bearable pressure was exerted on him or if something was taken from him without his consent by a believer.”

So I guess relationship between believers and disbelievers is very fair, honorable and logic.

Quote:Therefore, under Islamic law, a Muslim male is not allowed to show any affection or friendship towards his non-Muslim wives. Correct???

Absolutely incorrect, the Prophet Muhammad pbuh clearly states that the best among his nation is he who is best to his wives… <b>he doesn’t mention that this wife has to be a Muslim to be treated well. </b>

Interesting.

The Koran clearly states that Allah does not love Christian women:

> Surely Allah does not love the unbelievers. Surah 3:32

But (according to Mel_Wel_2) Muslim men are permitted to love Christian women.

I find it curious that Muslim males would risk the wrath of Allah, by loving women that Allah states he doesn't love.

Ok, you have to understand the following:

• There are many verses in the Qur’an stating that those who coexist peacefully with Muslims are entitled to justice, compassion, and respect, irrespective of their religion (60:8-9) as long as they are peaceful with Muslims, in other words, those who are <b>not</b> peaceful with Muslims should not be treated the same way, and in my opinion, this group is the one which Allah referred to in verse 3:32

• The Qur’an allows a Muslim man to get married to a Christian or Jewish woman. If it were true that the Qur’an demands hating Non Muslims in general, how could it permit a Muslim man to marry such women? <b>Marriage is the closest human relationship and is described in the Qur’an as a relationship characterized by peace, love, and compassion</b> (30:21)

not only that a Muslim man can marry a Jewish or Christian woman, but as a wife, her Muslim husband has obligations to her. As revealed in Surah 30 verse 22, <b>he should dwell with her in peace and treat her with love and compassion. </b>

Does it make sense that a Muslim would be permitted to marry a non Muslim, but not to love her?

Interesting. Muslims believe that Allah's love is conditional (for example, Allah doesn't love Christian women), but Muslim men are capable of loving people that Allah considers unlovable.

So, Muslim men are more forgiving and more loving than Allah???

Do You really want to understand this issue, Or do you want to argue because arguing with you is only in the best way. upon knowledge not rediculous statements with an attemp to incite. argumentation we as Muslims are not permitted to go back and forth with you in this manner. It's unproductive But If you really want to know weather muslims hate. Yes everyone from the human family is capable of hating someone or something, You agree? But in islam Allah legislates all mtters even this matter. when I was seeking to understand Christianity I was sincerly having discorse with qualified pastors and bishops, and priest having constructive dialog with them, asking direct questions regarding their faith. Not to join them, but to just understand their faith I didn't ply games with them. I didn't give loaded questions nor did I make sarcastic remarks. Be just and sincere For Verily Allah is watching us. This is a forum that says islam message, with Islam as the first word, Which means peace. so be at peace <b>reepicheep</b>. How bout it. Hey whats behind that user name anyway? just currious man. <b>Have a good day</b>

Abdulwalee, I want to understand what you and Wel_Mel_2 are posting, but your posts do not seem to be logically consistent.

Let's start over. According to Surah 3:32, "Allah does not love the unbelievers."

My first two questions:

Q1: Does Allah love unbelievers?

Q2: Are Christians unbelievers?

I'll post my next questions once I see the answers to these first two questions.

Have you seen the recent Narnia movie "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe"? The next movie in the series is going to be "Prince Caspian". In "Prince Caspian", the character Reepicheep (a valiant, fearless, and honourable mouse) will be introduced. He will appear as a major character in most of the subsequent movies (assuming more than two movies are made).

Quote:Interesting.

I am happy that you found every post of mine to be interesting :) . This is in fact interesting. :D

Quote:Muslims believe that Allah's love is conditional.

True, because Muslims are logical people, we believe that God is <b>FAIR</b>, and so, <b>how can God love the unbelievers and at the same time promise them eternal Hell?</b> That would be illogical. <b>How will any believer feel that with all his good deeds and his love to the Creator, then find that God Almighty loves the corrupt people equally?</b> This is unfair and illogical.

Plus, you have to be aware of what your own Bible said regarding this matter, here are the reference from your own Bible where God Almighty declared that <b>he do not love all people, and that he even HATE some of them. </b>

a time to love and a time to <b>hate</b>, a time for war and a time for peace. Ecclesiastes 3:8

You must not live according to the customs of the nations I am going to drive out before you. Because they did all these things, <b>I abhorred them</b>. Leviticus 20:23

Anyone who does these things is <b>detestable</b> to the LORD, and because of these <b>detestable</b> practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. Deuteronomy 18:12

I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and <b>I will abhor you</b>. Leviticus 26:30

Just as it is written: "Jacob I loved, <b>but Esau I hated</b>." Romans 9:13

Here we find that God Almighty in the Bible does not love everyone as Christians claims.

Quote:(for example, Allah doesn't love Christian women),

Where did He say that He doesn't love Christian women?

Quote:but Muslim men are capable of loving people that Allah considers unlovable.
So, Muslim men are more forgiving and more loving than Allah???

You are proving to me how poor your understanding is, we have mentioned earlier, that there are many types of unbelievers, Allah, most surely does not love those who shows enmity to Muslims and their faith, other good, peaceful and respectful Christians or Jews, He even promised them Paradise.

"And there are, certainly, <b>among the People of the Book </b> [Jews and Christians], those who believe in God, in the revelation to you, and in the revelation to them, bowing in humility to God: They will not sell the Signs of God for a miserable gain! <b>For them is a reward with their Lord</b>, and God is swift in account.
(Quran, 3:199)"

"Not all of them are alike: <b>Of the People of the Book</b> [Jews and Christians] are a portion that stand (For the right): They rehearse the Signs of God all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration. They believe in God and the Last Day; they enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong; and they hasten (in emulation) in (all) good works: <b>They are in the ranks of the righteous</b>.
(The Noble Quran, 3:113-114)"

Here you can clearly see that Allah does mention about the righteous Jews and Christians who believe in Allah Almighty and do righteousness and will have their Great Reward and enter Paradise, so why would a Muslim be prohibited to love such people whom Allah Almighty loves dearly?

I hope this point is clear by now insh a Allah.

Quote:Q1: Does Allah love unbelievers?

I guess I’ve explained this point.

Quote:Q2: Are Christians unbelievers?

Among them are people who have faith “believers”, but the majority of them are perverted transgressors (Qur'an 3:110)

Quote:I'll post my next questions once I see the answers to these first two questions.

Anytime Reep, we are here for you. :D
