Can one only understand the Quran by just reading it? - Al-fateh - 04-05-2007 Can one only understand the Quran by just reading it? what is means of understanding it? Can one only understand the Quran by just reading it? - Muslimah - 04-05-2007 Bismillah as salam alykom brother Well, let me see because this question is not easy to answer and requires long, long, long literature. But we can say to make it easy, understanding the quran means to realise its meanings enough to be able to apply it as much as possible in our lives. Also to understand the contained messages that help us realise Allah's Existence. That is all I can think of now. This is really a deep question brother. And reading it yes is enough, I know what you are heading to, u mean one also needs to read tafseer, and reasons of revelation (this is very useful) which actually takes you more deeply. But the miracle of Quran is that it was revealed to all categories of people to read, a scholar, a commonor, a seeker of truth. Thus each one undertands with a level adquate to his/her needs. Can one only understand the Quran by just reading it? - Al-fateh - 04-05-2007 i am trying to bring out the need of ta'weel as well as the need of a good literature, because not all English translations are accurate, and they are not to be considered the Quran itself, but rather the meaning of the Quran in what the scholars did their best to be most accurate. it is not only the need of tafsir, but it is also the need of hadith , as well as the reasons of when and why the verse has been revealed the Quran is clear , as in terms of what distinguishes what is FALSE from TRUTH.... otherwise there are verses in the Quran, that if one just reads them, cannot simply find the answer by just reading it here is an example [97:1] We sent this (the Holy Koran) down on the Night of Honor. if one was to read this...and simply go by what it says, he will simply think the Quran was revealed in one night, the night of power Can one only understand the Quran by just reading it? - Muslimah - 04-07-2007 Bismillah I fully agree with you specially the translation part of the meanings, Alhamdulelah I m a native Arabic speaker and in so many cases I have to paraphrase or even correct. As for example in one translation, the translator may Allah Reward him couldnt understand the Tayamum rule and instead of saying to use dust, he got confused about the word sa`eedan and said to go into a high place. However, I still say that Allah Grants people understanding of Quran in every generation, because we cannt absolutely depend on tafseer. For instance, Quran is applicable throughout the time till the Day after, it has to be applied, and proven true in many ways. For example, currently people go for plastic suergery through which they totally change their looks, this is changing Allah's Creation. Yes at that time it was revealed marking people who do this to animals for example, but here it is being applied by mankind on mankind to prove Quran is from Allah and true till the Day After. Thus, really we need to read and read and read the Quran. Every time you read it, you stop at certain Ayahs that you did read before but feel a deeper understanding to it. Alhamdulelah. |
