Modesty News reached Omar ibn Abdul Aziz that his son had bought a ring worth 1000 dirhams, so he wrote to his son: News has reached me that you have bought a gem worth 1000 dirhams; when my letter reaches you, sell the ring and feed 1000 stomachs and get [instead] a ring for 2 dirhams and inscribe upon it: Allah has mercy upon he who acknowledges the limits of his own self (worth).
