Narrated Abu Huraira may Allah be pleased with him, reported:

A man came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man said. "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man further said, "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man asked for the fourth time, "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your father. "

On the authority of Abu Hurairah (radiAllaahu 'anhu) who said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

Bismillah

Narrated under the authority of Abi Horairah may Allah be Pleased with him that the Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam said: "One who believes in Allah and the Day After shall only say good or remain silent, One who believes in Allah and the Day After shall treat his neighbour graciously, One who believes in Allah and the Day After shall treat his guest graciously" (reported by Bukhari and Muslim)

In this hadeeth, we learn how to protect our tongures and keep silent if we do not have anything good to say. We really need to focus on this virtue in all aspects of our lives. In some cases people just speak for the sake of proving presence. We as Muslims need to consider when to speak and when to remain silent.

Just to elaborate for the sake of further explanation, the good here refers to for instance, teaching good matters, enjoining good which should be conducted based on proper knowledge and maintaining kind and patient attitude, forbidding evil also conducted based on proper knowledge and maintaining kind attitude, reconciliation between people, uttering a word of truth to people in authority..etc.

Bismillah

An example of the good to be said:

Abu Said Al-Khudri narrated that the Prophet Peace may be upon him,

The best jihad is a word of truth said before a tyrant Ruler.

Al-Albani, Sahih Al-Jami', The Best Jihad, 1100.

It is related that al-Bara' said, "On the day we met the idolaters, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, placed the archers and put 'Abdullah in charge of them: 'Do not leave. Even if you see that we have defeated them, do not leave. If you see that they have defeated us, do not leave.' When we met them, they fled until I saw the woman running towards the mountain, They defeated them and, by Allah, I saw the woman running with their legs and anklets showing. They began to say, 'Booty! Booty!' 'Abdullah said, 'The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, made me promise that you would not leave.' They refused. When they refused, they were confused about which way to go and seventy were struck down. Abu Sufyan looked down and said, 'Is Muhammad among the people?' He said, 'Do not answer him.' Then he said, 'Is the son of Abu Quhafa among the people?' He said, 'Do not answer him.'. Then he said, 'Is the son of al-Khattab among the people?' Then he said, 'Those have been killed. If they had been alive, they would have answered.' 'Umar could not restrain himself and said, 'By Allah, you have lied, enemy of Allah! All of those you numbered are among the living! That which will vex you remains!' Abu Sufyan said, ''Hubal be high!' The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Answer him!' They said, 'What shall we say?' He said, 'Say: "Allah is Higher and More Majestic."' Abu Sufyan said, We have al-'Uzza and you have no 'Uzza.' The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Answer him!' They said, 'What shall we say?' He said, 'Say: "Allah is our Protector and you have no Protector."' Abu Sufyan, 'A day which is in return for the day of Badr. Victory in war goes in turns. You will find some of the people mutiliated. I did not order it, but it does not vex me.'"

Bukhari, Expeditions, The expedition of Uhud, 3817.

Surah an Nas (Chapter 114)

A'isha (radiAllahu anha) reported that whenever the Prophet (salAllahu

alayhi wasalam) became sick, he would recite Mu'awwidhat (Surat Al-Falaq

and Surat An-Nas) and then blow his breath over his body. When he became

seriously ill, I used to recite (these two Surahs) and rub his hands

over his body hoping for its blessings.

[sahih al-Bukhari 6:61 #535]

'Uqbah Ibn 'Amir (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the messenger of Allah

(salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said 'No seeker of refuge can seek refuge

with anything like these two'

[abu Dawud]

Narrated under the authority of Abi Horaira, that the Prophet blessing and peace be upon him said: " A man would utter a work seeking to make his companions sitting with him laugh, due to this word, he would fall sharply farther than Al Thoraya (a set of stars that are very remote and has a special format)" Reported by Ahmad.

.'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: It is obligatory for you to tell the truth, for truth leads to virtue and virtue leads to Paradise, and the man who continues to speak the truth and endeavours to tell the truth is eventually recorded as truthful with Allah, and beware of telling of a lie for telling of a lie leads to obscenity and obscenity leads to Hell-Fire, and the person who keeps telling lies and endeavours to tell a lie is recorded as a liar with Allah (reported by Muslim</span>
