Narrated Anas:
The Prophet said, "Listen and obey (your chief) even if an Ethiopian whose head is like a raisin were made your chief.
I read the hadith my self I can see what u mean, I think is how we interpreted the word rather then its meaning. And am not trying to translate the word of the Prophet (bpuh) but what I think it means is that the Muslims should obey their rulers no matter what race the are.
Brother alhamdulilah I am black and I didn’t find offensive about the word Raisin Head and as u said some of us will find it offensive and some will not. and maybe am one of them, [img]style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif[/img]
I personally don’t take much notice of racism in Islamic or non-Islamic way, because the verses of the Quran and the hadiths tells us that Allah (SWT) does not look at your appearances or wealth but looks at your actions"
Here are some verse of the Quran and some hadithes.
"O Mankind, we created you from a single pair of a male and a female, and made you in to tribes and nations so that you may know each other (not that you despise each other). Verily, the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is he who is most righteous of you." (Al-Quran, Chapter 49, Verse 13)
O people, Remember that your Lord is one. An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a black has no superiority over white, nor a white has any superiority over black, except by piety and good action (Taqwa). Indeed the best among you is the one with the best character (Taqwa). Listen to me. Did I convey this to you properly? People responded, Yes. O messenger of Allah, The Prophet then said, then each one of you who is there must convey this to everyone not present.
This means righteousness, sincerity, modesty is what all that is needed to gain honour and become loved in the sight of Allah (S.T), no matter if you are black, white, red or brown, everyone is equal. One is not superior to another.

I wanted to say the exact thing that My dear Sister Yasmin said. The prophet (SAW) is saying follow your leader even if he is sooo different from you that he has a raisin head. Our beloved Prophet mohamed (PBUH) was in no way trying to redicule black people the point he was trying to make is basically (and this is ofcourse how I see it) That we should obey and follow our leaders no matter what race they are. Outer appearances are nothing they have no value what matters to Allah is our heart and Faith, what levels us from each other is our rightousness. Everything else was completely meaningless to rasululah (SAW). Thats why he loved Bilal so much because of the great man that was inside the black skin of BiLaL. Bilal is one of the few people during the lifetime of the prophet that was destined to go to paradise while he was still alive.

My parents are originally from the great Horn of Africa AKA Somalia, Alhamdulilah I am a Somalian. I am Black (even if one doesnt identify that immediately). My country is 99% sunni Muslim. Remember the whites who went to africa and stripped the africans off their land and threw them all across the world who treated blacks worser then animals? They were christians! I'm not saying that Arabs back during the Prophets time didn't used mistreat black people. They were experts in walking over anybody who looked darker then they were. Thats why the prophet took extra measures to teach them equality and that being light skinned wasn't going to get anyone to paradise.
I have experiences with black people (non-muslims) who have discriminated against me because I looked too indian or my features were just not cutting it to be fully authorised as an african or a black person.
My own personal opinion is that prejudice or hatred of any kind, whether that's racial, religious or any other is totally reprehensible and anyone who thinks like that needs their head examined.
The Hadith about Abu bakr exchanging Bilal for another black man, is very misterious to me, and I have never come across that hadith. Insha'Allah we'll refute it as false and fabricated. (With Allahs Help).

…. Allah sent down concerning him: ‘To those who annoy the Prophet there is a painful doom.” [9:61] “Gabriel came to Muhammad and said, ‘If a black man comes to you his heart is more gross than a donkey’s
.’”
As for this part Anya I am so surprised that u with your eagerness to search and dig u just seem to forgot to actually check the correctness of the Ayah.
The Ayahs is missing a part and Insh a Allah I will post the complete Ayah with an explanation:
"<b>And among them are men who hurt the Prophet (Muhammad ﻢﻠﺳﻭ ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ﻪﻠﻟﺍ ﻰﻠﺻ) and say: "He is (lending his) ear (to every news)." Say: "He listens to what is best for you; he believes in Allah; has faith in the believers; and is a mercy to those of you who believe." </b>But those who hurt Allah's Messenger (Muhammad ﻢﻠﺳﻭ ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ﻪﻠﻟﺍ ﻰﻠﺻ) will have a painful torment."
As u can see, the Ayah was missing an important part that explains actually why it was revealed. Alhamdulelah I already knew this Ayah and reasons of revelation, yet to confirm what am I about to type I double checked it.
Before I carry on, Yasmeen I realized what Anya meant by Ishaq, he is a scholar Mohamed Ibn Ishaq Ibn Yassar who contributed to the Tafseer as well as stating reasons of revelation.
Now back to the point, as u can clearly see from the complete translation, the Ayah is addressing a group of hypocrites who emerged in Medina from among the Muslims themselves, who used to say things between themselves and wish Allah Does not scandalise them in Quran. But Allah Sobhanhu wa Ta`ala Did. The used to talk ill talking about the Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam and if he blamed them, they swear they didnt.
Of them, according to Ibn Ishaq and others probably is Nabtal Bin Alhareth, who was not black, but according to the description given by Ibn Ishaq was a big man with red eyes, in his cheeks a part that is black redish (this is what the word saf`a means one who has sa`fa is exactly a black redish spot on the cheek which one may even develop due to being inflicted with the evil eye, let me not get off topic I am just trying to explain the exact meaning of the Arabic word) with flying hair and beard. Now who is this Nabtal? He is the man who used to convey what the Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam to the group of hypocrites. He was told not to, but he said Mohamed is an ear whoever tells him anything he believes. We tell him what we like to tell and swear it is true and he believes us.
As u follow, the description of one who wants to see Satan would look at Nabtal has nothing to do with him being black which he even wasnt, but only because he is Nabtal. Therefore this description does not fit any other person but Nabtal due to his attitude.
The Hadeeth didnt go as if one wants to see Satan would look at black men, but rather at Nabtal who again wasnt even black.

Is obviously an adition, we are still waiting for Anya to give us his source for this. I checked as many tafseer and reasons of revelation in Arabic.
Plus it looks so much fabricated to fit the false explanation of the hadeeth which was not as I said earlier addressing a black man.
I must make a stop here and clarify my position, if I came back to this thread and decided to address the missing points I did this for Allah, Islam and our beloved teacher, leader and Messenger Mohamed Salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam. Not to let unattended crucial points such as those rest without explanation for any member who might visit the forum.
We all take responsibility being on the board before Allah.
I mean it is not to convince Ayah specially as only Allah Knows his heart and his destiney. Plus he knows better and he is sure now that Allah Is there and Is One.

I guess I have never been so emotional over a topic on board for the past 3 years such as this. Just thinking of the implication of accusing my beloved teacher of being rude or unkind really got to me. Alhamdulelah I always was able to take non Muslims feelings in consideration, think how my teacher would have behaved. But not on this one, really..... But why not? he even faced more than this during his life. I think it is a constant trend.

One who joins benefits no one but him/her self
And one who is turned away hurts no one also but him/her self. That is why we explained on detail on that thread of martini about going to hell, that it is a choice. One who really wants to see the truth Allah Sobhanuh wa Ta`la Helps him/her to see it, other wise if one is reluctant to Allah Does not force no one.
Plus what is even more important we Muslims are already 1.6 billion, we dont need to beg for more, we need to improve.

Before we move on to the other points my dear sisters teaming here to tackle this subject, may Allah reward u much and puts it in the balance of your good deeds.
We must also take note that a major factor to how we receive any instructions is the level of our satisfaction with what is related to it.
In other words, when u r pleased with how Allah Created u u will be pleased with Allah. Being pleased with Allah does not imply the actualy sense as Him being pleased with us. But rather being accepting to whatever He Gives and whatever He Does not give.
As Allah Explained:
"Allah will say: "This is a Day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: theirs are Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise) - they shall abide therein forever. <b>Allah is pleased with them and they with Him</b>. That is the great success (Paradise)." (Quran 5:119)
This status is when the devotee accepts any type of test and trail Allah Puts the devotee in.
