Quizzie Quiz - Amira2003 - 07-09-2003

Salam alikom

Is it Thumamah ibn Uthal?

Quizzie Quiz - Mutawakkil - 07-09-2003

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah

Maasha'Allah.....correct.

Thumamah ibn Uthal was one of the most powerful Arab rulers in pre-Quranic times. This is not surprising since he was a chieftain of the Banu Hanifah and one of the rulers of al-Yamamah whose word no one dared to challenge or disobey.

In the pursuit of his evil design against the Prophet(Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam), Thumamah met and killed a group of the Prophet's (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) companions. The Prophet thereupon declared him a wanted man who could lawfully be killed on sight. Not long afterwards, Thumamah decided to perform umrah. He wanted to perform tawaf around the Kabah and sacrifice to the idols there. So he left al-Yamamah for Makkah. As he was passing near Madinah, an incident took place which he had not anticipated.

Groups of Muslims were patrolling the districts of Madinah and outlying areas on the lookout for any strangers or anyone intent on causing trouble. One of these groups came upon Thumamah and apprehended him but they did not know who he was.

Probably more 'famously unknown' as "That Man" who was tied to one of the columns in the masjid for several days. Finally the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) "What do you have to say for yourself?" he asked again as he did every day and Thumamah repeated what he had said once more. Then the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) turned to his companions and said, "Set him free."

Thumamah left the mosque of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) and rode until he came to a palm grove on the outskirts of Madinah near al-Baqi' (a place of luxuriant vegetation which later became a cemetery for many of the Prophet's (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) companions). He watered his camel and washed himself well. Then he turned back and made his way to the Prophet's (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) mosque. There, he stood before a congregation of Muslims and said: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger." He then went to the Prophet, upon whom be peace, and said: "O Muhammad, by God, there was never on this earth a face more detestable than yours. Now, yours is the dearest face of all to me." "I have killed some of your men," he continued, "I am at your mercy. What will you have done to me?"

"There is now no blame on you, Thumamah," replied the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam). "Becoming a Muslim obliterates past actions and marks a new beginning."

Thumamah (Radi Allahu Anhu) was greatly relieved. His face showed his surprise and joy and he vowed, "By God, I shall place my whole self, my sword, and whoever is with me at your service and at the service of your religion."

"O Rasulullah," he went on, "when your horsemen captured me I was on my way to perform umrah. What do you think I should do now?"

"Go ahead and perform your umrah," replied the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam), "but perform it according to the laws of God and His messenger." The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) then taught him how to perform umrah according to Islamic rules.

Thumamah (Radi Allahu Anhu) left to fulfill his intention. When he reached the valley of Makkah, he began shouting in a loud, resonant voice:

[b:9e4f7487ec]"LABBAYK ALLAHUMMA LABBAYK.

LABBAYKA LAA SHAREEKA LAKA LABBAYK.

INNAL HAMDA WAN NI'MATA LAKA WALL MULK.

Quizzie Quiz - Mutawakkil - 07-11-2003

As-salaamu`alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Time's up.....and the question was.....

Q. There he lay, bleeding profusely. He had numerous wounds, from sword, spear and arrow. His foot had been cut and he had fallen into a hollow where he lay unconscious. Who was this Sahabah who had fought so bravely and what did the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) say of him? [/color:ab291733ad]

<span>A. [b:ab291733ad]TALHAH IBN UBAYDULLAH[/b:ab291733ad] </span>

<span>Thereafter, the Prophet, (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) said: [b:ab291733ad]"Whoever is pleased to see a man still walking on earth who had completed his span (of life), let him look at Talhah ibn Ubaydallah."[/color:ab291733ad][/b:ab291733ad]</span>

<span><span>Narrated AbuHurayrah - Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) was upon the mountain of Hira' and there were along with him Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Talhah, Zubayr, that the mountain stirred; thereupon Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihee Wassalam) said: [b:ab291733ad]"Be calm, there is none upon you but a Prophet, a Siddiq (the testifier of truth) and a Shaheed."[/b:ab291733ad][/color:ab291733ad]</span></span>

<span><span>[b:ab291733ad]He earned the title of the living martyr [/b:ab291733ad]on the battle of Uhud. Many Muslims fled the battlefield that day leaving the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhe wasallam, with only a handful of his companions. The Prophet and the companions climbed the mountain when a group from the pagans followed them seeking to kill him. He asked, "Who can drive those men away and he will be my companion in Paradise?" "I can O Messenger of Allah," said Talhah. "No, stay where you are," replied the Prophet. Then a man from the Ansar offered to be the one, and the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhe wasallam, said yes. The man fought until he was killed. The Prophet asked, "Who can drive those men away and he will be my companion in Paradise?" Again Talhah said, "I can O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet, sallallaahu alayhe wa sallam, said, "No stay in your place," And another man from the Ansar offered to fight. He fought until he was killed. The Prophet, sallallaahu alayhe wasallam climbed the mountain with those with him, and the pagans were still following them. He continued asking his companions to drive them away and each time Talhah offered to help, but the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhe wasallam, would allow another Ansari to fight instead until all the Ansar around him were killed, and only Talhah was left with him. The Prophet, sallallaahu alayhe wa sallam, then said, "Now you can." Talhah sprang like a lion chasing away the enemy, and protecting the Prophet who was by then exhausted from fighting, his front tooth was broken, his forehead was gashed, blood was running all over his blessed face. Talhah would charge at the enemies keeping them away and then he would go back to the Prophet helping him climb higher. He would do this again and again until he drove away all of them and got the Prophet to a safer place. By that time Abu Bakr and Abu Ubaydah who were fighting the pagans in an area far from the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhe wa sallam, came up to him to help him, but he said, "Leave me and go help your friend," meaning Talhah. When they got to Talhah, they found him bleeding profusely; his body pierced in more then seventy places by the swords and the spears of the pagans, his hand was severed and he was laying unconscious in a ditch. Later the Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam said, "Whoever would like to see a man who is still walking on earth after he has met his death, he should see Talhah ibn Ubaydillah." And that is how he earned the title of the 'living martyr'. Whenever the battle of Uhud was mentioned to Abu Bakr, he would say, "That was a day that belonged all to Talhah (meaning that he had saved the day)."</span></span>

As Salam Alykom Mutawakkil

First off Masha Allah your posting effects are so special and innovative Mash a Allah

I was not attending to the forum for three days. I was hoping Red Sea diver to continue on the topic.

It is correct Abdur Rahman Ibn A`awof. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم told him in a hadeeth that he saw him coming into Jannah crawling because of his wealth. He was very wealthy. In return, the whole Medina became almost partners with Abdur Rahman in his fortune. He lended money and never took it back or gave away as sadaqa. After the death of the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم Aysha once heard a high sound shaking Medina and observed people running out. She inquired. They told her it is a large trade caravan of Abdur Rahman's coming into Medina. She repeated the hadeeth of the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم. when Abdur Rahman was told about her reaction, he said she reminded me of something I was told by my beloved Prophet. Accordingly he decided to give out the contents of the whole caravan for Sadqa.

May Allah shower those men with His Mercy and allow us to be with them in Jannah.

Ok Mutawakkil let us carry on....

Q. Who was Hateb Ibn Balta`a, and why was Quran revealed about him?????

Bismillahir-rahmanir-rahim

As-salaamu`alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh to my brothers & sisters in Islaam & G'Day to others

(from Ibn Kathir Tafsir) The story of [b:8a1f95c838]Hatib bin Abi Balta`ah [/b:8a1f95c838]is the reason behind revealing the beginning of the honorable Surah Al-Mumtahanah. Hatib was among the Early Emigrants and participated in the battle of Badr. Hatib had children and wealth in Makkah, but he was not from the tribe of Quraysh. Rather, he was an ally of `Uthman.

When the Messenger of Allah decided to conquer Makkah, after its people broke the peace treaty between them, he ordered the Muslims to mobilize their forces to attack Makkah, and then said, [b:8a1f95c838]O Allah! Keep our news concealed from them.[/b:8a1f95c838] Hatib wrote a letter and sent it to the people of Makkah, with a woman from the tribe of Quraysh, informing them of the Messenger's intent to attack them. He wanted them to be indebted to him [so that they would grant safety to his family in Makkah]. Allah the Exalted conveyed this matter to His Messenger , because He accepted the Prophet's invocation [to Him to conceal the news of the attack]. The Prophet sent someone after the woman and retrieved the letter.

This story is collected in the Two Sahihs. Imam Ahmad recorded that Hasan bin Muhammad bin `Ali said that `Abdullah bin Abu Rafi` -- or Ubaydullah bin Abu Rafi` -- said that he heard `Ali say, "Allah's Messenger sent me, Zubayr and Al-Miqdad saying, [b:8a1f95c838]Proceed until you reach Rawdat Khakh, where there is a lady carrying a letter. Take that letter from her.[/b:8a1f95c838] So we proceeded on our way, with our horses galloping, until we reached the Rawdah. There we found the lady and said to her, `Take out the letter.' She said, `I am not carrying a letter.' We said, `Take out the letter, or else we will take off your clothes.' So she took it out of her braid, and we brought the letter to Allah's Messenger .

The letter was addressed from Hatib bin Abu Balta`ah to some pagans of Makkah, telling them about what Allah's Messenger intended to do. Allah's Messenger said, [b:8a1f95c838]O Hatib! What is this[/b:8a1f95c838] Hatib replied, `O Allah's Messenger! Do not make a hasty decision about me. I was a person not belonging to Quraysh, but I was an ally to them. All the Emigrants who were with you have kinsmen (in Makkah) who can protect their families. So I wanted to do them a favor, so they might protect my relatives, as I have no blood relation with them. I did not do this out of disbelief or to renegade from my religion, nor did I do it to choose disbelief after Islam.'

Allah's Messenger said to his Companions, [b:8a1f95c838]Regarding him, he has told you the truth.[/b:8a1f95c838] `Umar said, `O Allah's Messenger! Allow me to chop off the head of this hypocrite!' The Prophet said, ([b:8a1f95c838]He attended Badr. What can I tell you, perhaps Allah looked at those who attended Badr and said, "O the people of Badr, do what you like, for I have forgiven you.''[/b:8a1f95c838]'

The Group with the exception of Ibn Majah, collected this Hadith using various chains of narration that included Sufyan bin `Uyaynah. Al-Bukhari added in his narration in the chapter on the Prophet's battles, "Then Allah revealed the Surah, [b:8a1f95c838]O you who believe! Take not my enemies and your enemies as protecting friends... '[/b:8a1f95c838] Al-Bukhari said in another part of his Sahih, `Amr (one of the narrators of the Hadith) said, "This Ayah, [b:8a1f95c838]O you who believe! Take not my enemies and your enemies as protecting friends'...[/b:8a1f95c838] was revealed about Hatib, but I do not know if the Ayah was mentioned in the Hadith (or was added as an explanation by one of the narrators).''

Mash a Allah correct

and see how the Prophet صلىالله عليه وسلم handled the situation. I am always impressed by it.

Q. Who was the companion for whom the Ayah 6-7 of Surat Nnour (Quran 24:6-7) were revealed:

"والذين يرمون أزواجهم ولم يكن لهم شهداء إلا أنفسهم فشهادة أحدهم أربع شهادات بالله إنه لمن الصادقين* والخامسة أن لعنت الله عليه إن كان من الكاذبين".

"And for those who accuse their wives, but have no witnesses except themselves, let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies (i.e. testifies four times) by Allâh that he is one of those who speak the truth.

And the fifth (testimony should be) the invoking of the Curse of Allâh on him if he be of those who tell a lie (against her)."
