It is okay to count it , but just don't celeberate it like the christians do. The prophet did not use to do it, it is not from sunna, so do not do it. [Image: smile.gif]

As far as I know, birthdays are allowed as they are NOT specific to any aqeedah. If they were unique or were to emanate from an aqeedah other than that of Islam then it would be forbidden. For example, xmas, sabbath or diwali are forbidden celebrations for us as they are not from the aqeedah of Islam.


Birthdays do not emenate from the Christian or pagan aqeedah or any other aqeedah and therefore are permissable. Who ever said anything about birthdays being a Christian thing??!


As for Rasool (saw) not celebrating birthday or his companions does not make it haram. Maybe at that time amongst the Arabs it was not a custom to celebrate birthdays and therefore the practice was not heard of.


Yes, if one was to say it is fard (obligation or sunnah) to celebrate birthdays i.e. attaching reward or punishment to it then it is biddah.


To have a party (not in the western sense with free mixing and khamar) but to invite a few brothers or sisters and have some food is allowed.


So if b/days are from a culture other than that of Islam then it is a no-go. But since its origins are not, it is mubah i.e. permissable!


It is very important to understand what Hadhara and Madaniyyah is as it affects our actions i.e. Culture and Civilisation.


Cultures emanate from the aqeedah one holds.


Civilisation is to do with technology and science (not unique to any culture or aqeedah)


We also have to understand what Sunnah means. Sunnah is the speach, actions and sayings of Rasool. Not everything (SAW) did is allowed for us e.g. he was allowed to have more than 4 wives, we are not. He was allowed to carry his fast over to the next day without breaking it, we are not. Tahajjud was made fard upon him (saw), recommended for us. So to say it is not Sunnah because Rasool (saw) did not do it is incorrect.


There are many people who say that televisions are not allowed or telephones. These are not specific to any aqeedah/culture and are universal.


This is my opinion, others may have different opinions which is perfectly fine and it is healthy to discuss the evidences.

It is brother Deen, it is a christian thing, tha arabic and islamic societies did never use to celebrate it, until the british and french occupation began spreading, and this was spread in our societies like christmas, and if u ask any scholar in Islam he will tell u it is Haram.

The arabs used to do worse than birthdays before Islam and it was all stopped. Islamic customs wont change with time brother.

And u r allowed to make Tahajud as well, if u wish y not [Image: blink.gif] .


But the fast thing yes u r right.


In Islam we do not build Fatwas on openion brother, but from Quran Sunnah and scholars.
