Kissing Quran - Karbala - 01-22-2009 salam, Dan please dont bring Shi'a - Sunni into this, what is the need? Fact of the matter is even many of the Jama'a agree with me e.g. http://islamqa.com/en/ref/9320 You complain i dont use hadith when arguing against a scholar of hadith. I counted two hadiths in the article and none of them are narrations from the Prophet(saw). One is from Umar ibn Khattab and the other one Zayb ibn Thabit. Both of those hadiths in matter of fact have nothing to do with kissing the Quran. Quote:Regarding worship: If the MOA did it, we do it. If the MOA did not do it, we leave it. Why is this so hard? Again you're missing the point, no one is saying kissing the Quran is an act of worship! No one is even calling it part of religion. Its just a personal matter. If you dont want to do it dont do it. But what gives you the right to forbid other people from doing it? I have no problem in admitting there is no precedent for kissing the Quran, but I have a serious problem when it is labelled an evil. There is no precedent for islamic calligraphy, is islamic calligraphy evil? Kissing Quran - Muslimah - 01-22-2009 Bismillah Karbala, I realise you havent addressed my post, not sure if u read it. I also understand your point of trying to evade the lable Bidaa. Actually, I tried to avoid it as well, there is a trend of really expanding on calling things bidaa and this is serious. But on the other hand, we also need to be very careful not to turn away from the original direction and main focus. As I said, what would passing under the Quran do, or let alone benefit a soldier before a battle. Let me bring another example. In some countries, i m sure Pakistan is one, people may write an Ayah or so, wrapp it in a piece of cloth and wear under their garments as a form of protection, evil deterrance..etc. (Taweedth), is this what Quran is for? certainly not. The Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam never told us to write Quran and wear it, but rather to recite it for protection. This is the main point, we just fear that such acts may expand to actually superced the real purpose of having this glorious book. Such acts may gain more importance, if encouraged, over the main purpose. To the best of my knowledge and to my humble understanding, this is the point behind not encouraging such acts.
