Read the Bible for "Guidance and Light"? - Curious Christian - 06-10-2006

Did Mohammed say to read the Bible for Guidance and Light? IF so, since you say that the Bible is corrupted than why would Mohammed have you read it?

The same Bible Muhammad would have seen (if he ever did) is in both (1) The Vatican (Codex Vaticanus) and (2) British Museum (Codex Sinaticus). It is all there, including Jesus dying on the cross as atonement for our sins. And, His resurrection, and ascension into heaven - in front of many witnesses. The New Testament is preserved in almost perfect condition in these two Greek texts which both predate Muhammad and Islam. So why would he encourage Muslims to read it?

Also, by whom, and when were the Christian and Jewish Scriptures corrupted?

And if the Torrah and Gospel came from Allah can the word of Allah be corrupted?

"No change can there be in the words of Allah" and that Allah cannot alter (or abrogate) his words."Suras 6:34, 6:115, 10:64 and 50:28,29

Good and valid point to raise now.

Let us see, Allah Sent numerous Messengers and Prophets one after the other. Every time, people are hit by satan's deviation, Allah simply renews and refreshes their memories telling them hey just worship me, do this and dont do that, remember, just come back. Ok, a group follows and as usual another rejects the call for many reasons, of them arrogance, stubborness and envy. Well that is not our point for now.

Mind u every time Allah Sends the Messenger or Prophet to his people only not to all mankind.

Allah allowed them as well to tamper with their books modifing it to suit their inclinations and desires. Allah Knows that ahead. Much difference between His Knowledge and having anything to do with inducing the error. Ok. That is even another point. But let us give an example here. The teacher tells the student, u r not making the exam this year given the level of your studing. The student does fail. What has the teacher got to do with this? nothing. it is the teacher's experience that made him able to make this judgement.

Now back to our core of interest, books being changed. So Allah sent the Messengers and Prophets and allowed people to disobey and tamper with the books in order to give them as many chances as possible. Allah didnt simply stop giving chances, no Allah manifested with His Attribute the All Patient. Allah was being Patient because He Wants to give a chance for people to believe.

Not that He was unable to protect His books. Till He Sent Mohamed the final Messenger, because u can not go on giving chances for ever, with the final book, which was well protected for people to read and understand.

Sura 5.68 - Say: O followers of the Book! you follow no good till you keep up the Taurat and the Injeel and that which is revealed to you from your Lord;

This verse is talking about the books which were not tampered with, it even confirms the meaning. Just re read it carefully.

Hope I helped in this point

I understand what you are trying to say, but that isn't what the Qur'an says.

"This verse is talking about the books which were not tampered with, it even confirms the meaning." Like I said before, the Tauret and Injeel which were present when the Qur'an was written are as they are today.

Curious, the verse means they will not do good unless they go back and repent and follow what is in their books which they changed( i m aware that at the time of the Messenger prayer and peace be upon him they were already changed) specially in regard to the advent of Mohamed. In other words, Allah Is Calling them to follow the Messenge of MOhamed prayer and peace be upon him as mentioned in their books. And Allah Knows best

Bismillah:

Quote:Did Mohammed say to read the Bible for Guidance and Light? IF so, since you say that the Bible is corrupted than why would Mohammed have you read it?

I don’t remember anything in the Prophet's Hadith where he say or commanded us to read the Bible. in fact he said ‘By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad, even if Moses were to appear before you and you were to follow him, leaving me aside, you would certainly stray into error; for if (Moses) were alive (now), and he found my prophetical ministry, he would have definitely followed me’

This saying was the reaction of our Prophet Muhammad pbuh when Umar his companion brought some verses of the Torah and start showing the Prophet PBUH. So he gets upset and say even if Moses was alive today he would follow me. Indicating that Moses would follow the Qur'an and the Prophet Sunnah if he was alive today. Means that Torah and Injeel were not meant for all times but they were revealed to serve a particular time period and that the Qur’an was meant for all times to serve all humanity

Quote:The same Bible Muhammad would have seen (if he ever did) is in both (1) The Vatican (Codex Vaticanus) and (2) British Museum (Codex Sinaticus). When you say “the new testament is preserved in almost perfect condition in Greek text”. You are referring to which version of the Bible? KJV, RSV, RCV, NIV, living Bible, or which version???

Quote:Also, by whom, and when were the Christian and Jewish Scriptures corrupted?

the Qur'an tells us that people of the Book (Jews and Christians) themselves hide many portions of the original scriptures (Torah and Injeel) to suite their desires amd to satisfy their arrogance because they didnt like the idea of "Arabian Prophet".

The original Message of the Torah (Old Testament) was still around during Muhammad's (peace be upon him) time. But because the Jews had so much controversies, disputes and age-old prejudices among themselves, they ended up losing the entire original message. Please keep in mind that the Jews were divided into several tribes before Islam, and those tribes had so much problems. They never had One True Judaism as many Christians mistakenly believe. That is why the Jews massacred each others before and brought themselves from 11 tribes to only 2 (Judea and Samara located in what we call today West Bank Palestine) due to all of the blood shed that took place between them. A total of 9 tribes were completely wiped out. That is why "differences arose therein....." Allah Almighty promised hell to those Jews who caused the corruption of the Original Torah; "Know they not Allah Knoweth what they [the Jews] conceal and what they reveal? And there are among them [the Jews] illiterates, who know not the Book [the Old Testament], but (see therein their own) desires, and they do nothing but conjecture. Then woe to those who write the Book [Old Testament] with their own hands, and then say: 'This is from Allah,' To traffic with it for a miserable price! Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby. (Quran, 2:77-78)"

As for the Christians and their Injil (New Testament), we Muslims believe that the Christians unintentionally had corrupted the Bible because they waited for too long to document it. Some Christians believe that the Bible was documented 150 years after Jesus. Others believe it took 300 years. In either case, the gap is too big and no Christian can guarantee accuracy. That is why you read in their current books and Gospels things such as "And Jesus said to Matthew....." instead of "And Jesus said to me [Matthew]...." and so on. Cases similar to this example literally exist in most of the New Testament of today, where they prove that the New Testament was not even written by its original authors. It was written by third party people, and their words are considered today the Word of GOD, which is wrong and sinful. The Christian sects also believe in different number of Gospels when you compare them to each others. The number of Books/Gospels in the Roman Catholics Bible for instance is different from the King James Version Bible, which is different in the number of Books/Gospels from the Jehovah's Witnesses Bible, which is different in the number of Books/Gospels from the Mormon's Bible, etc

but we can also see some verses in the Bible like "How can you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us'? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes has made it (i.e., the bible) into a LIE. (Jeremiah 8:8)"

so you can see clearly that the Jews had so much corrupted the Bible with their man-made cultural laws, that they had turned the Bible into a lie!

see Also Deuteronomy 31:25-29 where Moses peace be upon him predicted the corruption/tampering of the Law (Bible) after his death.

The Book of Moses predicted that the Law (Bible) will get corrupted. The Book of Jeremiah which came approximately 826 years after did indeed confirm this corruption.

now look at this image...

The above text reads: "The most reliable early manuscript and other ancient witnesses do not have Mark 16:9-20."

Now my concern to this corruption and 'answer-the-problem-away' statement is that what are those so-called "reliable early manuscript(s)" and who are the "ancient witnesses"?

According to the early Christians' manuscripts, Jesus never got crucified, and trinity is a lie. The so-called "gospel of Mark", along with all of the "gospels" of the NT, were written by third-party narration, as clearly demonstrated and shown in the sections below. People wrote on the tongue of Jesus' Disciples those books. They are neither original nor are the Pure Word of GOD Almighty.

If the "gospel of Mark" was indeed Divine and from GOD Almighty, then we wouldn't have this corruption, that they're admitting above, in it.

I hope you see the real danger in making these assumptions when you are willing to DIE for the fact that such Gospel is the actual True Word of GOD Almighty!

Further regarding this Gospel, we read the following commentary about Mark 16:9-20:

"Serious doubts exists as to whether these verses belong to the Gospel of Mark. They are absent from important early manuscripts and display certain peculiarities of vocabulary, style and theological content that are unlike the rest of Mark. His Gospel probably ended at 16:8, or its original ending has been lost. (From the NIV Bible Foot Notes, page 1528)"

This quote raises a very serious issue here. First of all, as we've seen above in the first quote, we have no evidence that proves that John Mark was the sole author of this so called "Gospel". Second of all, we see that this Gospel has some serious problems/suspicions in it. The issue of Mark 16:9-20 is a scary one, because many Christian cults today use poisonous snakes in their worship and end up dying.

We can be absolutely certain now that the above quotes prove without a doubt that the Bible is doubtful. The quote "or its original ending has been lost" proves that what we call today "Gospels" were not written by their original authors such as Mark, John, Matthew, etc... It proves that the Gospel had been tampered with by man.

Quote:And if the Torrah and Gospel came from Allah can the word of Allah be corrupted?
"No change can there be in the words of Allah" and that Allah cannot alter (or abrogate) his words."Suras 6:34, 6:115, 10:64 and 50:28,29

According to Islam, Allah Almighty (GOD Almighty) in the Bible promised those who try to tamper His Words in the Bible to face hell fire, <b>because He knew that it was going to happen. He gave the people of the book (Jews and Christians) a chance/test and they simply blew it.</b> Allah Almighty in the Noble Quran on the other hand, did promise that He will personally guard the Noble Quran from corruption. He never promised hell fire to anyone who tries to tamper His words in the Noble Quran. <b>He will guard it Himself</b>; "We (Allah) have, without a doubt, sent down the Message (The Quran); and We (Allah) will assuredly Guard it [from corruption]. (The Noble Quran, 15:9)." <b>Today we have only one Arabic Noble Quran</b>.

Look at Noble Verse 5:13 from the Noble Quran: "But on account of their breaking their covenant We cursed them (Jews and Christians) and made their hearts hard; they altered the words from their places and they neglected a portion of what they were reminded of; and you shall always discover treachery in them excepting a few of them; so pardon them and turn away; surely Allah loves those who do good (to others)." Israel, when it lost Allah Almighty's grace, began to sin against truth and religion in three ways: (1) they began to misuse Scripture itself, by either taking words out of their right meaning, or applying them to things for which they were never meant; (2) in doing so, they conveniently forgot a part of the Message and purpose of Allah; and (3) they invented new deceits to support the old ones.

Let us look at Noble Verse 5:41 "O Apostle! let not those grieve thee, who race each other into unbelief: (whether it be) among those who say "We believe" with their lips but whose hearts have no faith; or it be among the Jews,- men who will listen to any lie,- will listen even to others who have never so much as come to thee. They change the words from their (right) times and places: they say, 'If ye are given this, take it, but if not, beware!' If any one's trial is intended by God, thou hast no authority in the least for him against God. For such - it is not God's will to purify their hearts. For them there is disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a heavy punishment."

Quote:- Sura 5.68 - Say: O followers of the Book! you follow no good till you keep up the Taurat and the Injeel and that which is revealed to you from your Lord;

Allah Almighty commanded the Jews and Christians to rule among themselves according to the Bible only in the social and domestic disputes. This was when Islam was partial and its Laws were not yet complete. The following Hadith further proves this:

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: "The Jews came to Allah's Apostle and told him that a man and a woman from amongst them had committed illegal sexual intercourse. Allah's Apostle said to them, "What do you find in the Torah (old Testament) about the legal punishment of Ar-Rajm (stoning)?" They replied, (But) we announce their crime and lash them." Abdullah bin Salam said, "You are telling a lie; Torah contains the order of Rajm." They brought and opened the Torah and one of them solaced his hand on the Verse of Rajm and read the verses preceding and following it. Abdullah bin Salam said to him, "Lift your hand." When he lifted his hand, the Verse of Rajm was written there. They said, "Muhammad has told the truth; the Torah has the Verse of Rajm. The Prophet then gave the order that both of them should be stoned to death. ('Abdullah bin 'Umar said, "I saw the man leaning over the woman to shelter her from the stones."

But after Islam became complete, there was no reason for them to continue following the Bible: ".....<b>This day those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion: Yet fear them not But fear Me (Allah). This day have I (Allah) perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your (complete) religion</b>....(Quran, 5:3)"

So right now Christians and Muslims must follow the Noble Quran and Islam to get accurate Justice, the Qur'an says: 7:157 states: <b>"Those who follow the Messenger [Muhammad], the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (scriptures) in the Law and the Gospel for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good and prohibits them from what is bad; He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them. So it is those who believe in him, honor him, help him, and follow the Light which is sent down with him- it is they who will prosper." </b>

We Muslims believe that Allah Almighty did send the Torah (Old Testament or the Law) to the Jews, but they then corrupted this Holy Message; "We (Allah) certainly gave the Book To Moses, but differences arose therein: had it not been That a Word had gone forth Before from thy Lord, the matter Would have been decided Between them: but they Are in suspicious doubt Concerning it. (Quran, 11:110)"

hope this answer your quesitons insha'ALlah.

Again, you've done me a service by answering those questions Muslimah and Wel Mel.

<b></b>

"but we can also see some verses in the Bible like "How can you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us'? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes has made it (i.e., the bible) into a LIE. (Jeremiah 8:8)"

I wouldn't say that this verse means that the "false pen of the scribes made it into the Bible thus making it a lie." The passage is a warning against false teachers and warnings not to believe them. The words (i.e., the bible) aren't in the verse and reading the passage in context doesn't infer the "bible." The "scribes" were supposed wise men who had no real knowledge of God. This verse does, nor does any other, say that their pens made it into the Bible.

<b>"see Also Deuteronomy 31:25-29 where Moses peace be upon him predicted the corruption/tampering of the Law (Bible) after his death."</b>

Not quite. Moses predicted their their rebellion against the Law and the things which Moses taught them. The passage does not say that they will corrupt the Bible.

Deuteronomy 31 26-29

26 "Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God. There it will remain as a witness against you. 27 For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you have been rebellious against the LORD while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after I die! 28 Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officials, so that I can speak these words in their hearing and call heaven and earth to testify against them. 29 For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall upon you because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD and provoke him to anger by what your hands have made."

Moses is responding to what God has just told him in the preceding versus:

Deuteronomy 31: 14-18

15 Then the LORD appeared at the Tent in a pillar of cloud, and the cloud stood over the entrance to the Tent. 16 And the LORD said to Moses: "You are going to rest with your fathers, and these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them. 17 On that day I will become angry with them and forsake them; I will hide my face from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and difficulties will come upon them, and on that day they will ask, 'Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not with us?' 18 And I will certainly hide my face on that day because of all their wickedness in turning to other gods.

As you can see it doesn't say that the Law or the Bible will be corrupted. Rather it predicts that the Law will be disobeyed.

<b>"According to the early Christians' manuscripts, Jesus never got crucified, and trinity is a lie."</b>

That isn't true. As I've said before, the earliest manuscripts in existence include the death of Christ on the cross and the resurrection. Even if you don't include Mark 16: 9-20 Jesus is still crucified and resurrected. SO, if you can show me legitamate early manuscripts, I guess it would have to be the earliest ones, which don't include the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ I'd love to see them.

As far as Mark 16's ending is concerned there is question as to whether that ending is original or if it was added later. This is one case of unknown or confirmed abrogation. I think there is a lengthy post about abrogation in the Qur'an which Muslimah showed me. Her answer in #23 was basically that Allah changed the verse<i> "This incident was somehow misinterpreted as that waliyadhubillah satan was able to throw this part to the Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam who just repeated it but then Allah abrogated this part and took it off. "</i>

Mark 16 long ending appears very early in the early manuscripts. It is confirmed by history that the longer ending was cannon as of 170 AD.

In 177 AD Irenaeus wrote Against Heresies. In it he cites from Mark 16:19, establishing that the longer reading was in existence at this time and was considered canonical, at least by Irenaeus:

Also, towards the conclusion of his Gospel, Mark says: "So then, after the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God; " confirming what had been spoken by the prophet: "The LORD said to my Lord, Sit Thou on My right hand, until I make Thy foes Thy footstool." Thus God and the Father are truly one and the same; He who was announced by the prophets, and handed down by the true Gospel; whom we Christians worship and love with the whole heart, as the Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things therein.

i always try to bring some evedince to support my claims.

if you watch film, <b>"Banned from the Bible"</b> on the History Channel. According to this documentary film, some of Saint Peter's apocalypse were banned from the current Bible, and <b>these Epistles contain what Islam claims </b> - that Jesus didn't get crucified on the cross and it only appeared that he was. This banned part also says that Jesus was standing next to the cross laughing. These are the parts of the Bible that only few people in the world know about.

According to the documentary film, the apocalypse was very popular among Christians during the 2nd century. They believed <b>"it was spiritually inspired" by GOD Almighty to Saint Peter</b>. They actually had doubts about "John's apocalypse", which is known today as "the Book of Revelation". Interestingly also, this apocalypse says that after GOD Almighty fills both Heaven and Hell with inhabitants from Mankind, and the people of Hell get tortured for a long period of time, the People of Heaven will ask and Pray to GOD Almighty to Forgive the people of Hell. GOD Almighty will then eventually listen to their Prayers, and will order the "Gates and the Steel Bars of Hell" to be opened and allow the people of Hell to enter Heaven for Good.

You can purchase the documentary film, "Banned from the Bible", at History Channeland watch it for yourself.

here are some quotes of Peter's Apocalypse that confirm Islam's claims:

The Savior said to me, "He whom you saw on the tree, glad and laughing, this is the living Jesus. But this one into whose hands and feet they <b>drive the nails is his fleshly part, which is the substitute being put to shame, the one who came into being in his likeness</b>. But look at him and me."

But I, when I had looked, said "Lord, no one is looking at you. Let us flee this place."

But he said to me, "I have told you, <b>"Leave the blind alone!". </b> And you, see how they do not know what they are saying. For the son of their glory instead of my servant, they have put to shame."

And I saw someone about to approach us resembling him, <b>even him who was laughing on the tree</b>. And he was filled with a Holy Spirit, and he is the Savior. And there was a great, ineffable light around them, and the multitude of ineffable and invisible angels blessing them. And when I looked at him, the one who gives praise was revealed.

And he said to me, "Be strong, for you are the one to whom these mysteries have been given, to know them through revelation, that he whom they crucified is the first-born, and the home of demons, and the stony vessel, in which they dwell, of Elohim, of the cross, which is under the Law. But he who stands near him is the living Savior, the first in him, whom they seized and released, who stands joyfully looking those who did him violence, while they are divided among themselves. Therefore he laughs at their lack of perception, knowing that they are born blind. So then the one susceptible to suffering shall come, since the body is the substitute. But what they released was my incorporeal body. But I am the intellectual Spirit filled with radiant light. He whom you saw coming to me is our intellectual Palermo , which unites the perfect light with my Holy Spirit."

Read on :

"But many others, who oppose the truth and are the messengers of error, will set up their error and their law against these pure thoughts of mine, as looking out from one perspective, thinking that good and evil are from one source. They do business in my word. And they will propagate harsh fate. The race of immortal souls will go in it in vain, until my Parousia. For they shall come out of them, and my forgiveness of their transgressions into which they fell through the adversaries, whose ransom I got from the slavery in which they were, to give them freedom that they may create an imitation remnant in the name of a dead man, who is Hermas, of the first-born of unrighteousness, in order that the light which exists may not believed by the little ones. But those of this sort are the worker who will be cast into the outer darkness, away from the sons of light. For neither will they enter, nor do they permit those who are going up to their approval for their release."

It is noteworthy that many other gospels contain similar messages. You really need to understand and know that in the first century,

1) EVERY CHURCH HAD ITS OWN DOCTRINE

2) EVERY CHURCH HAD ITS OWN SCRIPTURES.

Not until the first council did the people in Rome set what we see today as the standard christian theology. All those other early churches have been persecuted and killed for their different views.

Read the Bible for "Guidance and Light"? - Curious Christian - 06-12-2006

Those books didn't make into the Cannon of scripture. I believe the Holy Spirit reveals which books are cannon and which aren't. There were many false books and teachings coming from Gnostics and alike.

The authorship of the Saint Peter's apocalypse was questioned and eventually denied. Peter, we see in the Book of Acts, was witness to the resurrected Christ and a believer in his divinity.

The four Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are all accepted as Cannon in every Christian denomination. They all confirm that Christ was crucified and resurrected. That is not only a fact of the Gospels but that is a fact of history. It wouldn't be hard to know that a "gospel" which denies Christ's death wasn't cannonical.

In a previous post I read that there are hadeeths which Muslims question to be authentic or "cannonical" in their own right. It's no different for Christianity.

Wel_mel_2, I'm having difficulty understanding the point you are trying to make. Are the following two statements an accurate summary of what you believe?

(1) More than one English language translation of the bible exists (for example, the KJV, the RSV, and the NIV). This proves that the bible is full of lies and half truths.

(2) More than one English language translation of the koran exists (for example, Yusuf Ali, Pickthal, and Shakir). This proves that every single word of the koran is true.

If that is what you are claiming, then I think your logic is flawed.
