Perhaps. But a muslim slave owner can have sex with his slaves whether or not he is married to them. In fact, according to the koran, the slave owner can have sex with his female slaves even if the slave is married to someone else. I find this belief offensive in the extreme.

According to your second link:

Also, the Prophet's mission was not to eradicate slavery, but to establish rights and bring people to the point of being able to eradicate it from their own hearts first before they eradicated it from society.

Slavery was practiced in Saudi Arabia until 1962, and the only reason it was eliminated is that President Kennedy put intense pressure on the Saudi government to stop this vile practice. So, then, it appears that even 1300 years was an insufficiant period of time for Arab muslims to eradicate slavery "from their own hearts".

Since the end of slavery was forced upon Arabs, and not given up by choice, I have no doubt that Arabs would legalize slavery again in a second if there was a wayfor them to do so. Besides, as all of us know, the treatment of many of the foreign workers in Saudi Arabia and other gulf countries is little better than slavery.

In addition to the near slavery which is still practiced in Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar, actual slavery is still practiced by muslims in Mauritania (which is 100% muslim) and Sudan (which is 70% muslim).

Reepi, before you want to just sit around complaining about what the Arabs do, or did in the past, maybe it would be a good idea to take off your horse googles and look at what the rest of the world does as well. Maybe if you can do that we could actually get results from discussion on these issues rather than having to address the same material over and over:

Glory to God, peace on earth, good will to all.

Slavery is wrong. Period. I'm on a mission to put an end to all forms of slavery in all parts of the globe!!!

I read the links provided by Ummm. Thank you!

Personally, I don't believe Mohammad (PBUH) liberated slaves. The end doesn't justify the means. It's not enough for Islam or any religion or nation for that matter (yes Wael - including situations in the Old Testament) to recognize slaves as dignified human beings based on certain conditions.

Anyways, my question is where does Islam stand today in regards to slave girls? The explanation was not very clear. Is it still acceptable for Islamic men to possess them?

Thanks in advance.

I pray that God blesses you & releases all from slavery whether it be sex, labour or sin.

Peace.....

I know this comment has been made before, but I find it interesting nonetheless. Why is it when a subject is presented about negative things found among those who practice Islam, one feels the need to deflect and mention how this or that act is also practiced by others not in Islam instead of just addressing the subject?

Just thought I'd ask...

HI Shamms :)

I really do understand what you mean. However, in the first this topic WAS addressed at least twice already on this board and Reep was asked to search about it rather than keep going over the same material.

And secondly, he did not raise any point which needs to be addressed. Instead he is just giving his opinions which he is entitled to. I posted the link I did because I felt he was trying to paint arabs in a negative light, and westreners in a positive light as it was, he claims, JFK who forced the saudis to end slavery, and probably the arabs would take it back in a second if the hero AMericans were not watching out for them. Before we take that kind fo stance we should look at what happens in our own backyards first.

These are human issues, and you will find they are happening in any race or culture, or may happen again in the future.

If you feel Shamms, that there is a point that was raised which we did not address, then I do apologize and wish you can bring it to attention, because I dont see it.

But honestly I feel its boring to keep going over the same material with the same people. And I do wish that if people search the material and find they still have questions, they will feel free to ask.

Thanks and take care.

Hey was reading over this old post and realized FHC asked a question that wasn't addressed:

Where does Islam stand today in regards to slavery? Is it still permissible for Muslim men to possess slaves?

AlShamms, until I elaborate further, and just to clarify matters, women are also allowed to possess slaves not only men. And yes slavery is permissible by Islam, under the known conditions and through the legitimate means.

Good morning...

Alright, owning of slaves is permitted in Islam for both muslim men and women. I saw it mentioned where sexual relations with slaves was addressed elsewhere before. If I could have a link to those threads that would be great.
