I do not speak arabic, but I try to learn it as I see it.


So far, I know the what the following mean:

jazekallah khair


allahu akbar


But there are other words and phrases that I see very commonly among these boards. Such as:


wa alaikum asslam wa rahmt allah wa barakath


wa moutasimah


and others.


I was wondering if someone could tell me what they mean?? I know there are websites that attempt to teach you common arabic words, but I am just looking for the phrases that I see so frequently on this forum.

6/28/04 - CLERGY DETAINED IN CHINA


The following is an editorial reflecting the views of the United States Government:


The Vatican has expressed concern about the arrests of Roman Catholic bishops in China. In a statement on June 23rd, Joaquin Navarro-Valls, spokesman for Pope John Paul the Second, said that two bishops from China’s Hebei province were each detained for several days this month. The Vatican also said that eighty-four-year-old Bishop Zhao Zhendong of Xuanhua, in northern Hebei province, disappeared on May 27th and may be in police custody. Chinese officials responded that Bishop Zhao was willingly attending classes about Chinese government policies on religion. They say he is now back at work.


The Chinese government’s treatment of the three Roman Catholic bishops is an example of how it interferes with the free practice of religion by the Chinese people. The U.S. State Department’s latest Report on International Religious Freedom points out that the Chinese government’s record remains “poor, especially for many unregistered religious groups and spiritual movements such as the Falun Gong.”


State Department spokesman Richard Boucher says the U.S. has raised its concerns with Chinese officials:


“We know the conditions are different from region to region, but there are consistent reports of harassment, intimidation, detention of religious believers. . . . [T]he Chinese constitution guarantees the right of religious belief, religious freedoms protected under international human rights interests, and we’ve called on the Chinese government to respect and protect this right for all of its citizens.”


China has five officially recognized religions -- Buddhism, Islam, Taoism, Catholicism, and Protestantism. More than one-hundred million Chinese practice these religions in groups registered with and controlled by the government. But many millions of other believers seek to worship free of government control. In response, Chinese police have closed underground mosques, temples, and seminaries, as well as some Roman Catholic churches and Protestant “house churches.” Many religious leaders have been jailed. Some have been tortured.


In Xinjiang province, home to millions of Muslim Uighurs, the Chinese government restricts the building of mosques and the teaching of Islam. In Tibet, monks who refuse to denounce the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, have been expelled from monasteries.


The Universal Declaration of Human Rights says, “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.” This includes the people of China.

What are women's rights in Islam?

In a truely Islamic society women have the following rights in Islam:


1. The right and duty to obtain education.


2. The right to have their own independent property.


<b>3. The right to work to earn money if they need it or want it. </b>


4. Equality of reward for equal deeds.


5. The right to express their opinion and be heard.


6. The right to provisions from the husband for all her needs and more.


7. The right to negotiate marriage terms of her choice.


<b>8. The right to obtain divorce from her husband, even on the grounds that she simply can't stand him. </b>(pls note that God deeply frowns upon divorce as a solution unless there is hardly any other alternative but it does not mean that men have more right to divorce their wives than women do.)


9. The right to keep all her own money (she is not responsible to maintain any relations).


10. The right to get sexual satisfaction from her husband.


11. custody of their children after divorce.


12. to refuse any marriage that does not please them

Hello everybody. this is my first participation in this forum , I hope you accept me as a friend who want the benefit for everybody ..


I am Muslim and I am proud for being Muslim, I hope that everyone in this world is Muslim , to try the sweetness of this great religion


Prophet Mohamed- peace be upon him-said (the one who feel the sweetness of faith is that who content with Allah as God, with Mohamed as a prophet and with Islam as a religion.)


And he said (you wont be believer if you don’t love your brother in Islam as well as yourself)


If your are a Muslim so let the others know Allah well and do all your best to let them know Islam with its right side.

There are a lot of things about Islam and I am so enthusiastic to talk about it, but inshaa Allah I will find the chance to write more and more.

1.United States is a country which is established by the pilgrimage cannot go away from religious faith in their politics said by Nancy Gibbs in the Time Magazine, Published on the 21st June 2004.


2. George Washington after taking his oath as a president sought help from the God by saying, “God help me”.


3. Thomas Jefferson exalted Jesus Christ as an essential philosopher of his life.


4. Abraham Lincoln believed civil war was the punishment for their evils committed by enslaving blacks so he bowed to the God after taking the oath as a president.


5. William McKean Lee took the decision to invade Philippines to Christianize the people of that country .Learning this physiologist Sigmund Fraud raised the question that was a messiah complex playing any role in him.


6. In 1996 Bill Graham wrote that Bill Clinton believe in Bible and Jesus Christ. And he believes that he is resurrected and he possesses all the qualities of an Evangelist.


7. In a census conducted by the Time Magazine has shown that 59% religious people favor George Bush on the other hand 69% unreligious people support William Kerry. In the question of running the government on the basis of religious belief of the president, 63% of the Democrats said NO he should not and 70% of the Republican said YES he should.


So we see in America religion is a major factor in their politics too.


We see the reflection of the Americans faith in their state affairs. They imprinted “In God we Trust” in their currency.
